Using The Laundromat For The First Time? 3 Tricks To Help You Avoid Problems

Laundromats are a great way to get your laundry done. Not only can you get everything done there at once, you don't have to use your own water or utilities. It's a win/win situation. If you've never used a laundromat before, you should know that there are a few tricks that will help make the process go more smoothly for you. Here are three tricks you should remember when you head to a laundromat, like City Laundry.

Do Some Advance Work

You want to save as much time as possible when doing your laundry. There are two things you should do in advance before you head to the laundromat.

Sort Your Clothing

There are a limited amount of washers at the laundromat. If you're going to be doing your laundry during peak hours – usually midmorning to early afternoon – you need to be ready to fill the washing machines as soon as you get there. Take the time to sort your laundry into individual loads before you go. This should include sorting the loads into colors and whites.

Pretreat Your Stains

You don't want to take the time to find all the stains while you're loading the washing machines. As you're sorting your laundry at home, keep your stain remover on hand. Pre-treat each stain before you place the clothing into your laundry buckets. When you get to the laundromat, your clothing will be ready to go in the machines.

Take Your Own Quarters

Laundromats do have change machines. However, it's always a good idea to take your own quarters with you. The last thing you want to do is haul your laundry into the laundromat only to discover that the change machine is empty. Save yourself time and trouble and stop by the bank for change before you head to the laundromat.

Do the Smell test

Before you place your laundry in the washing machines, do the smell test. This may be one of the most important steps you can take when using the washing machines at the laundromat. Smelling the machine before you load it will allow you to tell if the last person overloaded it with bleach. If you smell bleach in the machine, don't use it for your colors. Instead, use that machine for your whites.
